The week of November 2nd

On Sunday, November 2nd, the Music Ministry will provide some spooky selections for Samhain season. As the Prelude, the HoUUse Band featuring Jessie Downs will share Kate Bush’s song about a sensual specter, “Wuthering Heights.” As the Offertory, Helen Lowry will share the aria, “Stride la vampa (The Flame Crackles)” from the opera Il Trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi. As the Reflection, Jessie will share “Allerseelen (All Souls)” from Richard Strauss’s song cycle Lätzte Blätter (Last Leaves). As the Postlude, the HoUUse Band featuring Helen will honor the late, great Ozzy Osborne with their rendition of “War Pigs.”

The week of November 9th

On Sunday, November 9th, guests from the Queen City Worker Center will share thoughts on justice and perseverance. Music to be shared includes a solo piano Prelude, an arrangement by Michael Harris that honors a social justice legend, an 80s tune about struggling to keep it together - sung by Shaun Doyle, and a musical theatre tune about courage – sung by Taryn Goehrig.

The week of November 16th

Sunday, November 16th is Fall Music Sunday, featuring the Requiem by French composer Camille Saint-Saens (1835-1921). The mass will feature performances by the UUCB Choir, a keyboardist, and a soloist quartet featuring our own Helen Lowry (alto), alongside guest vocalists Emily Yancey (soprano), Daniel Barna (tenor), and Ky Ver Hoef (bass). The morning’s collection plate will go towards the Music Ministry’s Spring Music Weekend 2026.

The week of November 23rd

Sunday, November 23rd will be a primarily participatory service, with the soloists leading the congregation in singing hymns of gratitude. Featured hymns will include #357 Bright Morning Stars, #402 From You I Receive, #1010 We Give Thanks, #128 For All That is Our Life, and #67 We Sing Now Together. Paul Zanolli may also share a special request from Rev. Bethany at the Offertory.

The week of November 30th

On Sunday, November 30th, we will be joined by another guest speaker. Their message will be supported by reflective music about the autumn season. As the Prelude, a pianist will share “Feuilles mortes (Dead Leaves)” by Claude Debussy. As the Offertory and Reflection, the chamber choir will share an arrangement of “When October Goes” combined with “Autumn Leaves,” followed by “Autumn” by Ola Gjeilo. Shaun Doyle will end the service on an optimistic note with “Autum in New York” by Vernon Duke.
