As Unitarian Universalists, we believe in the inherent worth and dignity of every human being and in our responsibility to others. We promote the rights of the oppressed, including women, people of color, immigrants, sexual and religious minorities, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. We believe that everyone should have access to clean water, housing, education, health care, employment, legal defense, and a sufficient food supply. We aim to educate, transform and heal ourselves and our world through reason, love and compassionate action.
The Unitarian Universalist Church of Buffalo supports an active Social Justice Ministry, which leads the congregation in living our values through social justice activities. We strive to fulfill our vision by creating community, working for justice, and engaging diversity.
Each month we identify a local not-for-profit whose mission aligns with our values as our Share-the-Plate recipient. We prioritize local organizations that actively empower oppressed groups in leadership. The Justice Ministry Team brings compelling speakers through our share-the-plate partners. We activate the congregation to support their cause through donations and activities to transform the words of our mission into specific actions such as collecting needed items, postcarding, adopting a family for Christmas, clean-up on Earth Day, serving dinner at a soup kitchen, and furnishing an apartment for a refugee family. We welcome you to join us in action and welcome your suggestions for worthy organizations and activities to support.
