This month's Share the Plate Recipient:

Queen City Workers’ Center

Queen City Workers’ Center is a grassroots organizing body dedicated to building working class power in Buffalo to improve working and living conditions in our city. We believe that by unifying our struggles in a multi-racial, multi-generational movement, we make a better world not only possible, but inevitable. We are proud of victories we have had over the past few years, helping tenants at 201 Ellicott successfully confront a property manager that harassed them illegally and charged them for rent already paid. In our workplace organizing we supported People United for Sustainable Housing (PUSH) workers in filing a successful National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) complaint due to retaliation in their workplace. We also coordinated upstate efforts of the Securing Wages Earned Against Theft (SWEAT) bill fighting wage theft, plus the Ain't I A Woman?! Campaign fighting for worker control of time. Lastly, we increased the capacity of individuals to successfully stand up through hosting know-your rights workshops and trainings on organizing. We look forward to welcoming more justice-minded individuals into our work, and are excited for the opportunity to share more at your upcoming service! www.qcwc.org/about Located on the campus of Villa Maria College in Buffalo, NY, the Sister Mary Josette Food Pantry provides students and members of the surrounding zip codes (14225 and 14211) with supplementary food assistance and connections to other community supports.
